ROBOCKEY

The Design of Mechatronic Systems class at the University of Pennsylvania has a final project coined as "Robockey." Students are split up into teams of four and spend the last three weeks of the semester developing three autonomous, hockey playing robots (on the left in the video).

The puck used is specially designed to emit infrared light in all directions in order for the robots to locate it using phototransistors at their base. In order for the robots to locate themselves within the rink, each robot was equipped with a Nintendo Wii camera that used an infrared "constellation" 25 feet above the rink as a frame of reference. The technical work, fast-paced and high-pressure nature of this project significantly improved my organizational skills, teamwork, and communication.
